Adopted in 1866, the national flag of Honduras drew its inspiration from the flag of the short-lived Federal Republic of Central America (1823–39).
In proportions of 1:2, the Honduras flag is a horizontal blue-white-blue tricolour.
The two blue bands represent the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea, the sky, and brotherhood.
The white band represents Honduras lying between these two bodies of water.
It also evokes peace, the prosperity of Hondurans, and purity of thought.
In the centre of the white band are five blue stars arranged as an ‘X’ or alternatively ‘H’ for Honduras.
The five stars represent the nations that once comprised the Federal Republic of Central America (FRCA): Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.
The current flags of these five nations all resemble the FRCA flag in some way.
The stars also symbolise the hope that the five nations will once again form a union.
Bonus fact: Flag Day in Honduras is 1 September.

The Honduran flag has inspired the lyrics of the country’s national anthem – which must be amongst the most bizarre of any, which is no mean feat given the strength of the competition for this accolade :
Your flag is a splendour of sky crossed with a band of snow;
And there can be seen, in its sacred depths, five pale blue stars.
From a country where the sun rises, beyond the blue Atlantic,
That man who had dreamt you, in search of you he launched to sea.
When you raised your pale forehead, in the lively anxiousness of your hope,
Under the gentle dome of your sky already floated a strange banner.
To guard this sacred emblem we shall march, O Fatherland, to our death;
Our death will be honoured if we die thinking of your love.
Having defended your holy flag, and shrouded in its glorious folds,
Many, Honduras, shall die for you, but shall fall in honour.
do you know the name of the person who created the flag???
Is Hondurs near el salavador or next to it?
