The Northamptonshire village of Flore is home to the Commonwealth Flag Project.
With the registration last year of flags for Northamptonshire and Mercia, the Project took the opportunity to stage a magnificent display.
It raised together the flags of every layer of identity applicable to the village: Flore, Northamptonshire, Mercia, England, Britain, Europe, Commonwealth & UN.
Only a couple of communities in the UK have this full range of flags available to them, and we believe it is the first time they have flown together in the UK.
The Flag Institute commends the Commonwealth Flag Project and the Flore community for their initiative.
Well received as a visual spectacle, the display has also made viewers think about the world and their connection to it.
It is a wonderful example of the beauty and power of flags – individually and even more so when used in combination.

A very fine show. Makes me proud to be a Flore resident. 😀
MAGNIFICENT! A truely inspiring, stirring and fitting display for Flore’s war memorial.
Perseverance prevailed to get this unique display a reality. It certaily does raise the spirits.
