    Graphically the flag of England suffers from a large white background that is quite sterile and stark. The Scottish flag being blue doesn’t have the same problem. Neither does the Swiss flag being red.

    It would be interesting to see how the English flag would look if the ‘reddy’ red cross were subtly changed to a deep, almost burgundy red. Far classier.
