Notes: | The Wreay Flag is a community flag proclaiming the unique identity of this Cumberland village. The green field reflects Wreay’s verdant position by the River Petteril, whilst the yellow cross represents its bold faith. In the canton appear two crossed pipes, denoting the local institution of the Twelve Men of Wreay, and a silver bell from the history of the village. The flag dates from the late 1980s when the pipes and bell appeared the upper fly quarter. Prior to registration in 2015 they moved to the canton to improve their visibility. A Wreay flag has flown at the South Pole. Officially stamped as proof of the feat, it is now displayed in the village pub. |
