The flag design predates its official adoption in 1959 by several hundred years. A short lived version which had the dragon on a green mound within a ribbon reading “Y ddraig goch ddry cychwyn” was introduced in 1953.

    Correction required – third word reads as shown here “Y Ddraig Goch Ddyry Cychwyn”.

    Isn’t there a fourth color in the flag of Wales? What about the darker red (or black) that traces the features of the dragon?
