The bear and ragged staff is the traditional emblem of the county, associated with the Earls of Warwick and even reputedly back to the pre-Norman lords. Over time the emblem has been used by numerous military, administrative, sporting and civic entities that represent the county.

The traditional design was submitted for registration by a collection of representative bodies with support from the county’s High Sheriff and Lord Lieutenant.
