The Northamptonshire Flag is a community flag proclaiming the unique identity of this historic English county.

The design features a gold cross fimbriated in black upon a maroon field.

Maroon and gold are the county colours, worn by Northamptonshire CCC, while black references the leather industry.

Meanwhile the cross represents the county’s position at the crossroads of England.

Emma Rayif of St Peter’s Independent School, Blackthorn inspired the inclusion of a rose on the cross.

The judging panel supported this idea to distinguish the flag from other county emblems.

A specially designed Northamptonshire rose evokes the county’s sobriquet ‘Rose of the Shires’.

It uses elements common to past depictions: its dark red petals and centre, and its double tiers of petals.

To this it adds a central cinquefoil (from the Northamptonshire County Council logo) in gold.
