The Flag Institute has long had the goal of becoming a charity, but it has taken some years to achieve it.
About eighteen months ago we took the first formal steps in the process.
We had to identify the best type of charity for us, write a new constitution (actually two), hold votes at our general meetings, appoint trustees etc.
Finally, on 19 June 2013, we became a Charitable Incorporated Organisation in England and Wales, No. 1152496.
Our official aim is to advance education for the benefit of the public in all aspects of flags and vexillology.
Many thanks to the trustees who steered us through it all, and to our members who had to digest long and complicated legal documents.
Although we hope they didn’t actually eat them.
We can’t guarantee the ink was ‘food safe’!
Now we start the next phase in our history, as we work to live up to that deceptively simple aim.
