Every two years the world’s flag people come together to discuss the subject they love best, flags, hear talks on various vexillological subjects and socialise. These meetings are called the International Congresses of Vexillology (ICV). The first ICV was held in Muiderberg in 1965, and since 1969 have been sponsored by the world’s flag organization, FIAV (Fédération internationale des associations vexillologiques).
The Flag Institute has hosted three International Congresses of Vexillology: the 5th Congress in London (1973), the 19th Congress in York (2001) and the 27th Congress in London (2017). It also assisted the Heraldry Society with the 10th Congress in Oxford. Most of the Proceedings of the 5th Congress were published in the Flag Bulletin but two of the papers are available here as PDFs. All the Proceedings of the 19th Congress are available here as PDFs. The Proceedings of the 27th Congress will be available here as PDFs when they are published.
The 28th International Congress of Vexillology will take place in San Antonio, Texas, USA from on the 15-19 July 2019, hosted by the Vexillological Association of the State of Texas. They have a website at www.texflags.org.
