It isn\u2019t unique in design either since all of Scandinavia (except Greenland) uses the iconic Nordic Cross. Red, white and blue is a colour combination dominated by the flags of the United States and United Kingdom to name only two.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike the flags of several British Overseas Territories, none of Norway\u2019s three overseas territories (Bouvet Island, Queen Maud Land and Peter I Island) have Norway\u2019s flag in their canton (top left corner) because they don\u2019t even <em>have<\/em> their own flag.<\/p>\n<p>So why is Norway\u2019s flag <em>The mother of all flags<\/em>?<\/p>\n<p>Well, if you type \u2018mother of all flags\u2019 into <em>Google Images<\/em> you\u2019ll see many images of Norway\u2019s flag with several other national flags marked out within it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flaginstitute.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Norway-Mother.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3538\" src=\"https:\/\/www.flaginstitute.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Norway-Mother.jpg\" alt=\"Norway (Mother)\" width=\"850\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.flaginstitute.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Norway-Mother.jpg 850w, https:\/\/www.flaginstitute.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Norway-Mother-500x294.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.flaginstitute.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Norway-Mother-150x88.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.flaginstitute.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Norway-Mother-300x176.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 850px) 100vw, 850px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>These flags are: Indonesia, Poland, Malta GC, Finland, France, Netherlands and Thailand. Serbia &amp; Montenegro is also there if you look at an old enough version \u2013 it would be directly underneath the Dutch flag on the image above.<\/p>\n<p>Also bear in mind that the Dutch flag is very similar to Luxembourg\u2019s (and if you remove their coat of arms: Croatia and Paraguay) and Monaco\u2019s is almost identical to Indonesia\u2019s.
