association and UK-registered charity devoted to the study and promotion of flags and flag flying (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.flaginstitute.org\/wp\/about\/about-vexillology\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">vexillology<\/a>).<\/p>\r\n<p>Founded in 1971, we are an independent organisation &#8211; international, inclusive and informed:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>run and funded entirely by members<\/li>\r\n<li>global membership<br \/>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>novices and experts, vexillologists and vexillographers, flag geeks and flag nerds<\/li>\r\n<li>individual, group and trade<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li>global interests\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>member of the <a href=\"https:\/\/fiav.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International Federation of Vexillological Associations<\/a> (FIAV)<\/li>\r\n<li>four-time host of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flaginstitute.org\/wp\/about-us\/international-congresses\/\">International Congress of Vexillology<\/a> (ICV)<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<li>global centre of excellence and knowledge hub<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h2><strong>What we do<\/strong><\/h2>\r\n<p>Our purpose is to advance public knowledge, understanding and use of flags.<\/p>\r\n<p>We do this &#8211; in person, in print and online &#8211; through our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flaginstitute.org\/wp\/explore\/flagmaster\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">magazine<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flaginstitute.org\/wp\/meet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">events<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flaginstitute.org\/wp\/explore\/william-crampton-library\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">library<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flaginstitute.org\/wp\/explore\/publications\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">publications<\/a>:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li>documenting, celebrating and promoting flags in all their diversity<\/li>\r\n<li>sharing knowledge, opinion and ideas<\/li>\r\n<li>supporting the design and adoption of new flags<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>But that&#8217;s not all &#8230;<\/p>\r\n<p>We also serve as the authority on flags and flag flying:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flaginstitute.org\/wp\/contact-flag-institute\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">enquiry line<\/a> &#8211;
