The flags of the Crown Dependencies and Overseas Territories flew in Parliament Square to mark the State Visit of the President of Indonesia.
They made a stirring sight, flying for the first time in the UK as a coordinated group.
The 21 flags included two Union Flags that represented the two Sovereign Base Areas of Cyprus.
They also included Ascension Island, whose flag is still to achieve final approval.
These flags will fly again on future State Visits.
The Flag Institute believes that they should fly permanently to show the full extent of the UK’s overseas realms and territories.
In view of the Coronavirus outbreak, should we be flying the relevant flags on the Queens Birthday and St Georges Day ?
